Of all business processes, HR is probably one of the most diversely regulated. HR and data privacy professionals need to navigate a complex patchwork of labor, pension and occupational health and safety laws against the backdrop of an increasing body of privacy laws. Multinationals often consider getting their global HR system data retention compliant the first priority when implementing global data retention standards.
The best form of compliance is local compliance. A one size fits all global retention period will not work for your global HR system given the diversity in HR retention requirements. It is impossible to combine a maximum retention period in the Netherlands, with a 10 to 50 year minimum retention period in Poland and a permanent storage period in Vietnam. The good thing: your global HR system will most likely support local compliance!
